Wild and Wonderful Workplace

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Picture this; you wake up, roll over, and pull the curtains to reveal a blanket of fresh snow. In the corner of the room your board or skis are ready to go. You eat breakfast and walk out to the slopes or grab a quick shuttle to the ski trails. After a big day on the hill with great friends you go back to sleep knowing you can do it all again tomorrow. And the next day, and the day after that.

This is a dream for anyone on a ski or snowboard trip. But, for Snowshoe employees, this dream becomes a daily reality. Snowshoe mountain offers a variety of jobs and a plethora of perks for its employees. Read on to find out more about working at the ‘Shoe.

Types of Jobs

On the surface, Snowshoe is simply a ski resort. With a quick thought, the jobs that come to mind are ski patrol, ski instructor, and lift attendant. But, dig down a bit more, and the resort becomes, essentially, a mini city. We’ve got openings across all lines of work that are crucial to keeping this mini city running. Are you a welder or a heavy equipment operator? We’ve got miles and miles of water and air lines running deep under ground that require year-round maintenance. Do you find joy in the art of preparing meals? Snowshoe has numerous restaurants on the mountain from quick-serve to fine dining. Or maybe you’re a core snowboarder or skier that just loves to ride? Our terrain park crew spends their days preparing the park before open and lapping the park to upkeep the lips and features. These are just a few of the roles that are needed to run the best resort in the region.

Whether you’re looking for a guest facing role interacting with people or a more behind-the-scenes gig, look no further than Snowshoe Mountain.

Employee Perks

If beautiful Western sunsets, access to adventure, and a paycheck aren’t enough to peak your interest, Snowshoe offers amazing perks to all employees.

The best perk is a free season pass. That’s right, each employee gets a season pass to Snowshoe. Plus, full time employees can get a free Alterra pass which gives you access to other amazing resorts like Palisades Tahoe in California and Steamboat in Colorado. At the end of the season here, many employees take trips out west to other Alterra destinations.

Additional perks include cheap employee housing, free ski and snowboard rentals, a free ski/snowboard lesson, discounts on gear, discounts on adventure activities, and discounts at Snowshoe restaurants. And the perks don’t just apply to you! Share the passion with your friends and family by utilizing lodging discounts, and 12 vouchers for $25 lift tickets.

-Riley S. Restaurant Supervisor, 5 years at Snowshoe

I started my journey at Snowshoe not knowing how to ski, but I not only learned the sport, I also made lifelong friends during my first season as a ski instructor. After a summer as a raft guide, I found myself looking for Snowshoe jobs online, which led me to a recruiting coordinator position. Over the past two winters, I’ve learned so much, grown within multiple departments, and had the privilege of being part of many amazing teams. Now, as a recruiter, I’m excited to continue sharing my love for both the mountain and the stunning Pocahontas County with new hires and returning staff. One of my favorite memories is traveling to Peru to interview our J1s for this season. I can’t wait for them to experience snow for the first time! I’m eager to introduce them to skiing, just as I was introduced to it. The journey continues, and I look forward to what comes next.
